Brain Abscess Associated with Tetralogy of Fallot

Abstract
|
|
|
A 10-year-old boy with tetralog of Fallot was admitted to he Seoul National University Hospital on March, 11, 1966, upon whom an aortic pulmonary shunt was performed at 6 years of age.
He did well until 20 days prior to admission, at which time he suffered the onset of headache and vomiting.
On admission, he had mild nuchal rigidiy, postive Kernig´s sign, bilateral papilledema, left sided homonymous hemianopsia and bilaterally increased deep tendon reflexes. Chest x-ray revealed slight cardiomegaly and marked elongated aora and plain skull x-ray revealed mild separatio of the sagittal and coronary sutures. Brchial cerebral angiogrephy revealed big space occupying lesion in the right temporo-ocipital region.
On March 25, 1966 under local anesthesia a bun hole was made on the right postorior temporal region and aspirated about 80cc. of pus. Follwing thorough irrigation of the abscess cavity with warm saline, the wound was closed primarily. The patient was discharged asymptomatic on fourteenth postop-day.
